Influential Films

Having done detailed research in to the genre of social realism there are a few films which have influenced us to a large extent:

The Boy Next Door

Focusing on the impact of mistakes in the online society this film has played a prominent part in choosing some of our shots. From it we have learnt that rather than shooting mid shots for any sexual contact, close ups of this contact are much more effective and also shocking. Additionally, we have been inspired by the shot of photos put up all over the classroom, we liked the concept of being surrounded by reminders of a mistake. We would like to use a similar idea in our film however we would like to film in the toilets as this makes it seem more dangerous as it is a place where students are not 'protected' by teachers.

Unfriended

A new horror film, Unfriended explores severe threats of the internet and social media. Though there is not very much we can take from this as it comes from a different genre, it has inspired us to learn how to film our screen on media sites to emphasise the power and implications of them.

Cyberbully

Cyberbully was a helpful film for us to identify with. It uses a similar storyline and shows the downward spiral which the internet can cause to those being tormented through it. This aided us as it gave us ideas on how to show the gradual decline of a protagonist without being cliché.
