All three of her films revolve around young women living in run down council estates and facing sexual and domestic situations.Despite the situations of abuse her heroines don't see themselves as victims.
Arnold has influenced us on the presentation of women in social realism films, to an extent we oppose her method as we present our protagonist as a weaker victim. However it is interesting to understand the different ways which women can be presented.
